In this video, Mike identifies possible links between legislators looking at policies to prevent older cars from being repaired, thus consigning them to the scrap heap. We also mourn the loss of Jagu...

Although I viewed the video about the poor sole whose V12 Vanquish engine was now toast (Video referenced the word buying a Lemon) it struck me that all franchised dealerships will play on the customer's need to get those dealership stamps in that service book. I have owned and bought used franchised purchases incl Bentley, Jaguar and Lexus, all with full service history. However my belief is that just because the service book is stamped by the main agent it gives no guarantee that the technicians are fully knowledgeable about the very cars they work on. Sell Sell Sell is their moto and up selling is part of the dealerships business model. My first Bentley was butchered by the so called Technician who wired up my air con system whereby when I braked the heater blower came on. My car never went anywhere else but now I firmly believe that specialist garages are the way forward. Specialist do not have a PLC demanding more and more sale hours but they have a knowledge base that understands the cars and all their common faults. Bamford Rose would be a specialist I would travel to even if I bought a new Aston and used the main agent to service it for those stamps in the book. True wealth would then enable an owner to go straight to BR after a dealership service so BR could validate the work was done correctly particularly the V12 engine check to ensure all cylinders are not misfiring as shown in Mike's video before and after the removal of those ceramic 1st stage catalysts. This young man knows his onions and his background with Aston Martin Engine development makes him the sort of specialist that needs to be contacted for all things Aston.

I've seen a number of Mike's videos but not all. I wonder if BR sell Aston's, what a purchase that would be if you bought one from them. Food for thought Mike?

  • @ArnageLeMans2001

True specialists like BR who know every aspect of the cars will always be around because a main dealers's business model is "sell sell sell" . The manifold Cat conversion for example on the DB9 V12 which will protect your investment is a great example of what a main dealer wouldn't do because they don't have the technicians who are skilled enough or have the knowledge like Michael does.

I live in Cyprus and want to bring an Aston from the UK. Import restrictions mean the car must be less than 5 years old when registered in Cyprus, which means only a Mercedes-era model. AM tells me no one can service it. AMOC won't answer me. The UK dealers say what they think you want to hear. Ditto Cyprus independents. Has anyone got any advice other than to steer away from the brand?

Greetings from Germany, Mr. Mike Beake, as a Rapide owner (daily driver), long time subscriber of your excellent channel and fellow petrol head, I must applaud the wealth of knowledge you share with us in a way that non-mechanics like myself can easily understand, thus becoming better owner-drivers of VH-platform vehicles. This video and your humourous introduction of unnecessary parts is, for lack of a better word: AMAZING !!! I look forward to the day when I will have the pleasure to drive to Great Britain and have my vehicle improved by your care & outstanding parts you have developped. Looking forward to the deletion of all the unnecessary "clutter" and not having to check 2-3 times a year if a bl..dy missfire might destroy my engine due to detonation on the primary ceramic cats, as well as improving the oil starvation problem that might occur due to valve issues (I will still check the oil level cold & 15 minutes after final drive, just as you so often suggest in countless videos, so as to avoid oil starvation on cylinders 6 & 12). With great respect and kind regards, TH

No it wasn’t built by Aston. It’s not really an Aston Martin. It was built by TWR in an old XJ220 factor. The only Aston part on this car is the badge. 😂

The cats that break up are the primary ones in the manifold? Can this be avoided by running a cat less manifold and relocating a sport cat downstream?

I’m keeping my 2014 Vanquish Volante. I got the Velocity AP Headers, Quicksilver Titan Exhaust, air intake & ECU tune. I was shocked to see the size of carry on luggage-sized air cleaner boxes that were removed. Car has no cats and it’s raucous as hell. Cold start freaks people out everywhere. Been very reliable too

I dont think it was very professional of a Company owner to be so immature as to be telling Dealership technicians to pay him for his advice. I have noticed in the Automotive industry everyone thinks they are the best people for the job. I have this uncertainty about this person now with that comment . I expected him to be professional and polite. Thing is does he speak to customers like this when he gets a little upset. I am a Master technician with BMW and i would never pull another BMW repair shop down or any other for that matter. I have heard this crap time and time again. Im the best, im the cheapest, dealerships will rip you off. Please stop. Don't talk it, prove it. Everyone knows that Dealerships are expensive. Everyone knows that they are operational by their peers. Call the dealership owners not the guys who work there!!!

I have a ‘14 Vanquish Volante with 34k miles. Did a few basic mods like custom air intake, Velocity AP headers, Quicksilver Titan exhaust, cat delete & proper tune. Single clutch doesn’t really bother me for driving around in Ft Lauderdale/Miami area. However, I need a new battery which wasn’t available for awhile and never actually got one cause I never got called back. Car hasn’t been driven for over two years as I kinda forgot about it and have several cars. Any advice on procedures before I get the battery and get it running. Fluids must shot for sure. Finally, the car has run absolutely amazing until the battery died but I’m worried about it ever running right again.

I drove a 2005 DB9 for 5 years and 45,000 miles. Loved it but switched to a 2011 Rapide for the extra room and occasional rear seats for friends and dinner engagements . It has worked just fine in that role and is a keeper.

A classic Vanquish and the Ferrari 360 are my top two dreams cars. I have always thought the Vanquish is one of the most incredible looking cars I've ever seen, but the thought of being advised to only drive the car one handful of times a year just seems so depressing. If I ever manage to make a decent living and could buy something like this I'd want to drive it more than 5 times a year that's for damn sure.
